Exam Syllabus — Subject-Wise (Common / Generic Syllabus Pattern)
The exact syllabus varies by post (Engineering discipline, Non-executive, Apprentice, etc.). IOCL does not always publish a fully detailed, uniform syllabus — instead, only broad subject areas are given. Based on recent recruitment patterns, the typical syllabus includes:
Technical / Discipline-specific Knowledge — depending on Engineering discipline (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, etc.) for Engineer / Junior Engineer posts.
Quantitative Aptitude — numerical ability, basic mathematics.
Logical Reasoning / Analytical Ability — reasoning questions, data interpretation, mental ability.
Verbal Ability / English Language — grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, reading, writing.
For Non-executive / Apprentice / Clerical/Administrative roles (if applicable): General Awareness, General English / Reasoning, Basic Computer / MS Office (for clerical roles), or Trade/ITI based technical knowledge if technical/operative role.
Note: IOCL does not always provide a publicly downloadable “complete syllabus PDF” covering all topics (like sub-topics under each technical subject). Generally, the notification refers broadly to discipline knowledge + aptitude + English + reasoning/awareness.
Download Syllabus / Notification / Detailed Advertisement
Visit official IOCL website → “Latest Job Openings” or “Careers / Recruitment” section.
Click on the relevant notification link (e.g. “Recruitment of Engineers/Officers (Grade A) 2025”, or “JE/JE Recruitment 2025” etc.) to open the PDF advertisement.
The advertisement typically contains eligibility, selection process, important dates, application instructions. That acts as the “complete syllabus / exam pattern + guidelines” for IOCL.
Important: As noted above — IOCL may not publish a fine-grained syllabus (with sub-topics) publicly. For technical subjects, candidates are expected to refer to their engineering diploma/degree curriculum or standard textbooks.
