India’s unorganized sector employs more than 90% of the country's workforce, yet until recently, there was no centralized system to document or support them efficiently. Recognizing this gap, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, launched the E Shram Portal (เค-เคถเฅเคฐเคฎ เคชเฅเคฐเฅเคเคฒ) in 2021 for E Shram Card Online Registration.
This blog provides a comprehensive 2500-word guide to the E Shram Card Online Registration 2022, covering what it is, why it's important, how to apply, what benefits it brings (including salary support), and whether there’s any exam involved.
The E Shram Card is a Universal Account Number (UAN) based identity card issued to workers in the unorganized sector through the E-Shram portal (https://eshram.gov.in).
It includes:
12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN)
Name, age, occupation, address
Aadhaar-seeded mobile number
Details of skills, educational qualification
The main objective is to create a centralized national database of unorganized workers for providing social security benefits.
Any unorganized worker can register, including:
Construction workers
Migrant laborers
Street vendors
Domestic helpers
Agricultural laborers
ASHA/Anganwadi workers
Rickshaw pullers, barbers, plumbers, etc.
For the first time, India is documenting over 38 crore unorganized sector workers on a national scale, aiding in better policy-making.
Workers will be directly linked to government schemes like PMSBY, PMJJBY, Atal Pension Yojana, and future employment benefits.
In events like pandemics, natural disasters, or unemployment, registered workers may receive direct cash transfers.
Every registered worker under the E-Shram portal is automatically insured with โน2 lakh coverage through Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
Future schemes like ESIC benefits, housing aid, or Ujjwala gas connections will be aligned with the E Shram database.

Benefits under PM Vishwakarma Yojana
Potential access to ESIC medical facilities and EPFO pension schemes (future integration planned)
Subsidy-based skill development or reskilling programs for job-ready preparation
There is no entrance exam or test for registering under the E Shram Portal.
However, skill assessments may be conducted in the future under schemes like:
PMKVY (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana)

State-wise vocational assessments
These will not affect your eligibility for E-Shram, but may determine eligibility for employment schemes or additional training.
