SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2022

The SSC CHSL Examination is conducted in three tiers:

Tier I: Computer-Based Examination

  • Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)

  • Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for PwD candidates)

  • Total Questions: 100

  • Maximum Marks: 200

  • Marking Scheme:

    • Correct Answer: +2 marks

    • Incorrect Answer: −0.50 marks

  • Sections:

    1. General Intelligence: 25 questions

    2. General Awareness: 25 questions

    3. Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skills): 25 questions

    4. English Language (Basic Knowledge): 25 questions

Tier II: Descriptive Paper

  • Mode: Pen and Paper Mode

  • Duration: 60 minutes (80 minutes for PwD candidates)

  • Total Marks: 100

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 33%

  • Sections:

    1. Essay Writing: 200-250 words

    2. Letter/Application Writing: 150-200 words

Tier III: Skill Test/Typing Test

  • Skill Test: For Data Entry Operators (DEOs)

    • Speed: 15,000 key depressions per hour

    • Duration: 15 minutes

    • Content: Data entry of printed material containing approximately 3,700-4,000 key depressions

  • Typing Test: For LDC/JSA, PA/SA, and Court Clerk

    • Speed:

      • English: 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) → 10500 key depressions per hour

      • Hindi: 30 w.p.m. → 9000 key depressions per hour

    • Duration: 10 minutes

    • Content: Typing of a given passage

Note: Tier III is qualifying in nature and is conducted only for candidates who qualify in Tier I and Tier II.

Note: The essay and letter/application writing topics are based on 10th standard concepts.
